Tesla Gigafactory Details Disclosed By CTO J.F Straubel


Tesla's Gigafactory is described by its CTO J.F Straubel in terms of size, production, consumption, and scalability.

The details of Tesla’s Gigafactory have been revealed. Previous month, the company and official, J.B Straubel, discussed upon manufacturing facility on a stage of an auditorium in University of Nevada. J.B stated, "It won't be some kind of satellite facility remotely controlled by some headquarters far away. It needs to feel like a startup in its own right.” Tesla’s gigafactory is worth $5bn.
The new factory is a 10 million square foot manufacturing facility under-construction located in the eastern part of Reno. It is known as the world’s biggest investment in the mass manufacturing of electric storage systems and powered car batteries pioneered to smooth the means of generating more solar energy. Tesla news revealed that in collaboration with the Japanese company, Panasonic, it intends to manufacture a larger number of lithium-ion batteries annually by 2020 than manufactured across the globe in two years. The aim is to cut down costs by at least 30%.
According to Tesla’s plan, 500,000 powered cars each year would hit the roads by the end of the decade. In addition, large scale renewable energy production facilities and rooftop solar panels would be also provided along with power storage gadgets. "If we're able to find ways to drop the price of storage much faster than anyone expected", J.B addressed the crowded room, "then we'll have the opportunity to do something that we've long felt has been a missing piece."
However, spending $5bn of corporate funds on a modernized battery facility is itself a risk. The disadvantages of manufacturing a huge assembly facility for the current era’s expertise are still not known and the numbers of risks are greater than that of the successes amongst high-tech labs and automakers trying to extend the lithium-ion batteries’ limits and crack new storage codes.
The facility is ahead of schedule in the high desert located in the Storey County, Nevada. One mile down a street known as Electric Avenue that crosses throughout the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, it is sitting on a lengthy, flat area closed for outsiders by nearby hills, which are Tesla’s properties. The nearby Wal-Mart and PetSmart stores are minute in comparison.

UNLV Receives $1 Million Investment From Tesla


Tesla investment of $1 million in battery research at UNLV would help its faculty to conduct educational research.

Tesla Motors is teaming up with an educational institution. After just about 12 months of building on its manufacturing facility situated near Reno, the electric vehicle pioneer and battery manufacturer is trying to have an impact on the southern region of Nevada. Pursuing an event and statements from Governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval, on Wednesday afternoon, the automobile manufacturing enterprise signed a contract to invest $1,000,000 over five years in battery and production research at the UNlV.
The contract would influence Tesla to fulfill its pledge to make an investment in scholastic study as part of the state’s plan to provide a tax incentive worth $1,300,000,000 to Tesla if it selected Nevada as the area for its huge-scale battery manufacturing plant that would cover at least 5,500,000 square feet.
Although most of the research is branded, the collaboration between the university and the high-tech manufacturer is directed towards complementing the operations at its Northern Nevada factory, stated Tom Piechota, an official at UNLV.
Tesla news today exclaimed that apart from research on power storing devices, the university’s faculty would be held responsible for helping the organization to study reprocessing, production, water treatment, and the performance of some metal materials, Mr. Piechota stated after the contract was announced.
Mr. Sandoval stated that the company has not only fulfilled its pledges but also surpassed them. He stated that the state’s relationship with the company is a representation of the method through which Nevada could play its role in helping businesses with components, production, and research at the same time.
Tesla Motors news revealed that Mr. Sandoval discussed the agreement by stating, “It brings it all together. It brings north and south together. It brings cutting-edge technology together with cutting-edge research at this university.”
Social media sources have reported that President of UNLV, Len Jessup, said that private collaborations are essential for UNLV’s objective to turn into an excellent research university. He remarked, “The connection for us is special. We get to be a little part of the catalyst in the next shift Tesla is about to make.”
The Vice President of Tesla Motors, Diarmuid O’Connell, pointed out that the automobile manufacturing company was initially established with the support of another educational institute, while referring to Stanford and joked that it was usual for pupils to obtain their qualifications and then immediately start working for Tesla.
